Medieval Hooded Cotton Cloak – Full-Length Reenactment Cape

£33.78

  • Handcrafted from breathable 100% natural cotton, this full-length hooded cloak shields against biting winds, sun, and road dust across long marches.
  • Fastened with reinforced neck ties, it drapes generously over maille, gambesons, or courtly garb without hindering weapon draw.
  • Available in black, brown, or red, it delivers essential, versatile weather cover for scouts, pilgrims, and garrison levies on campaign.

SKU: N/A Category:

A veteran knows that foul weather and harsh road dust will wear down an army long before opposing steel meets the battle line. Throughout the medieval era, a stout hooded mantle served as a soldier’s first line of defence against the elements, doubling as a windbreak on the road and a blanket beside the encampment hearth.

Tailored by Mythrojan from 100% natural cotton weave, this full-length cape provides practical, hard-wearing protection without the suffocating weight or stifling heat of heavy fulled wool. The natural cotton fibre breathes freely during high-noon skirmishes yet holds enough body to shed evening chill and road grit. Cut generously to drape cleanly over full gambesons, maille hauberks, or civilian tunics, it allows unencumbered movement whether drawing a longbow or setting guard upon a watchtower. The deep hood pulls forward to shroud the face and shield iron helmets from blistering sun or driving drizzle, secured at the throat by heavy-duty ties reinforced with stout stitching to resist tearing under sudden strain.

When donning this mantle for the field, tie the neck cords securely over your collarbone rather than against your windpipe, allowing the weight to rest squarely upon the shoulders so your neck moves without restriction. If worn over plate armour or maille, ensure the ties sit beneath your pauldrons or gorget to prevent chafing against raw iron. To maintain the cotton after a muddy campaign, wash gently in cold water and hang dry in the shade, keeping it primed for every march, tourney, and garrison watch to come.

"A seasoned soldier fears the road's biting winds and relentless damp as much as any blade, and a stout hooded cloak is your first wall of defence." — Osric, Master Armourer
