14th Century Charles de Blois Pourpoint

Price range: £77.39 through £111.79

Patterned after the famed fourteenth-century pourpoint of Charles de Blois, this tailored doublet delivers martial mobility without needless bulk. Crafted with historical grande assiette sleeve geometry, it features fabric-covered front buttons and an unpadded cotton canvas lining for structure. Available in dense recycled wool, breathable pure linen, or a balanced linen-cotton blend, it serves the man-at-arms in fair weather, harsh autumns, or garrison life.

SKU: 301123-Parent Categories: ,

"A proper pourpoint must move like skin, freeing your sword arm rather than binding it under plate or mail." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge

Preserved in Lyon?s Mus?e des Tissus, the original garment worn by Charles I, Duke of Brittany (1319?1364), marked a pivotal advance in medieval tailoring. Our faithful recreation honours this fourteenth-century marvel, pairing martial practicality with historical fidelity.

The defining virtue of this jacket lies in its iconic "grande assiette" sleeve construction. By cutting the shoulder and upper arm from a continuous curved piece, complete shoulder mobility is achieved without dragging the torso or restricting a strike. Hand-crafted using traditional period methods, the doublet fastens down the front with fabric-covered buttons for secure closure. Rather than packing in cumbersome padding, the entire garment is lined in sturdy cotton canvas, lending durable structure and shape on campaign without unneeded weight.

To equip you for varying seasons, three authentic fabric options are offered:
- 100% Recycled Wool (420 g/m_): Dense and naturally weather-resistant, offering warmth and clean drape for cold campaigns.
- 100% Pure Linen (220 g/m_): Breathable and moisture-wicking, suited for summer muster and warm garrisons.
- Linen-Cotton Blend: A resilient, supple weave balancing breathability with simple maintenance.

Care for your kit with diligence. Hand wash or gentle-cycle linen garments in cool water, ironing whilst damp; wash wool in cold water with mild detergent, drying flat away from heat. Expect minor variations in stitch and texture across every hand-finished piece.
