"A man who neglects his shins on the march soon curses the underbrush and the freezing wind. Bind them well, and you march whole." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Throughout the Viking Age and the Middle Ages, winingas served as indispensable kit for Norse warriors, Saxon levies, and medieval foot soldiers. These calf wraps fulfilled a vital purpose: securing loose trousers close to the lower leg to prevent snagging on briars, whilst shielding the calves and retaining warmth in harsh weather.
Crafted from 100% recycled wool at a substantial 420 GSM weight, these wraps are thick, durable, and built for longevity. The heavy wool fabric withstands rugged terrain and long days on campaign, whether on the reenactment field or during seasonal fairs. Each set includes two generous wraps, providing ample coverage from the ankle up to the knee.
Take note that brass fibula pins are not included with the set. This allows you to customise your kit according to rank or regional style, securing them with your own pins or ties. For a dependable fit, wrap smoothly upwards with firm, overlapping tension so they hold fast throughout movement.
To preserve the woollen fabric, hand wash in cold water with mild soap. Do not bleach. Air dry flat and store in a cool, dry place between musterings.
