Rather than relying on fragile buttons or laces that rot in damp bilge air, the front secures with solid brass buckles riveted directly to genuine leather straps. These cast fittings resist the corrosive bite of sea brine and allow rapid adjustment when shedding or donning gear between watches.

When outfitting yourself for campaign duty, measure your chest over the linen shirt or woollen doublet you intend to wear beneath. The adjustable straps permit fine tuning across the breast and waist, letting you draw it snug before boarding action or loosen it during shore leave.
