"A true bucket helm must command respect upon the field whilst sitting true upon the brow, bearing its iron weight without snapping a warrior's neck." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
First forged in the late twelfth century to counter the crushing blows of heavy weapons during the Crusades, the Great Helm evolved into the pre-eminent defence of the High Middle Ages. Earlier skull-caps left the face vulnerable, but this cylindrical design fully enclosed the knight in steel. This handmade piece faithfully reflects that heritage, capturing the presence of Templar knights who carried faith and status into European conflicts before lighter bascinets superseded them in the fourteenth century.
Wrought from 16-gauge mild steel and finished with a bright polish, the helm provides complete enclosure whilst presenting a striking look for display or pageantry. Inside, a leather suspension liner and an adjustable chin strap with buckle work together to balance the helm's 3.9-kilogram weight, softening strain during extended wear. As each helm is shaped by hand, slight surface variations give every piece unique character.
Mind your purpose with this gear. Though forged from solid plate, it is intended strictly for LARP, theatrical stage work, and collection displays, not live-steel combat. Remove the transit oil before your first muster, wipe it dry after use, and apply light oil regularly alongside leather conditioner to ward off rust and rot.
