"A centurion must be seen above the clash of shields, his helm catching the light so his men hold the line." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge

Modelled on artefacts recovered from imperial garrisons along Mainz and the frontier, this Imperial Gallic officer's helm represents Roman martial discipline from the late 1st century BCE through the 2nd century CE. The Celtic-Gallic lineage shows clear in the wide neck guard, stout brow reinforce, and flared cheek pieces, built to safeguard vital points while preserving broad vision in the cohort.

The skull is raised from 18-gauge mild steel, mirror-polished on the face and chemically blackened within to stave off moisture and rust. Upon the crown sits a forged iron crest holder, ready to seat a transverse horsehair plume so rank remains visible amidst dust and battle chaos. Solid rivets bind the cheek plates and peak, ensuring resilience during muster, exhibition, or legionary drill.

Inside, a supple genuine leather suspension liner takes the weight directly off the crown, distributing the steel evenly. An adjustable leather chinstrap paired with a brass buckle keeps the helmet fast during sudden movement. For long campaign readiness, wipe the steel clean with a soft cloth after drill, apply a light coat of oil around the rivets and edges, and keep the interior leather conditioned. Stored properly on a stand in a dry armoury, this helm remains fit for imperial service.
