?A stout mantle on campaign does more than break the biting gale; it marks the standing of the warrior beneath it.? Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Inspired by garments of the Early Middle Ages, the Alaric Cloak reflects the historic garb favoured across the eighth to eleventh centuries. For Norse seafarers, wanderers, and garrisoned fighters, a heavy woollen wrap served as vital survival kit and a recognised emblem of prestige.
This cloak is fashioned with a traditional diamond twill weave, mirroring historic textile remnants recovered from Norse settlements. Its cool, stormy palette evokes northern European waters, whilst the 320 g/m_ cloth, blending eighty per cent wool with twenty per cent nylon, provides genuine insulation and breathability along with reinforced structural strength for prolonged wear in the field.
Every cloak is bordered with a robust double-folded edge, ensuring a structured drape that resists fraying during hard use on campaign. Because these garments are handcrafted by skilled artisans, minor natural variations in weave, tone, and stitching are present, giving each piece distinct character.
For fitting, drape the cloak over the shoulders and fasten it across one side with a brooch or pin, keeping your weapon arm unrestricted, or pull it closed across both shoulders when harsh weather sets in. In camp, maintain the mantle with proper care: wash by hand or on a cold cycle, lay flat away from direct sunlight, dab stains gently, and avoid wringing or tumble drying to protect the wool fibres.
